Contention
With Ksp-Broadband low costs are achieved by contending, or sharing, the available bandwidth. A 20:1 contention ratio means bandwidth is shared with up to 20 other subscribers. Consequently, performance is variable depending on the level of contention and the bandwidth demands of the other users sharing the service.

Asynchronous
Leased line Internet connections are generally synchronous, which means that maximum bandwidth is available for both downloading and uploading data. Ksp-Broadband Internet access is asynchronous with more download bandwidth available than upload bandwidth. Combined with contention, this can limit the use of the service in performance critical environments. Ksp-Broadband provides 512Kbps, 1Mbps and 2Mbps download options, with upload bandwidth always restricted to only 256Kbps.

Bearer
Kent Science Park tenants benefit from sharing the same location as the SotaConnect PoP which means that, unlike BT Broadband, Ksp-Broadband does not require a compatible BT PSTN line.

The SotaConnect PoP is located at the heart of Kent Science Park and is fully integrated with a secure campus network which interconnects most of the buildings within the complex. The campus network is built on a resilient fibre infrastructure and proven Ethernet technology which means that Ksp-Broadband can be delivered securely to literally any location within the site.

Installation
Ksp-Broadband is provided with RJ45/Ethernet presentation for direct connection to the customer’s network. It is provided as either a secure feed from behind a central high performance firewall, or as an open feed for customers who require their own firewall.

IP Addressing
Ksp-Broadband is provided with either a single static IP address or an IP address range.
